Love says, “Bring Back Arthur T”

If you haven’t heard what is going on with the New England grocery store, Market Basket, it’s quite a story.

A BBC article headline about this unfolding drama reads, “Market Basket: Workers risk it all for their boss” You can read the whole article here at:
www.bbc.com/news/business-28580359

For my part in the story, I love shopping at Market Basket! Or, at least, I did.

Now, along with thousands of other customers, I am taking my business elsewhere. (O.K., I’ll admit that I went and bought my gluten-free bread there this week. I have to pay a whole lot more everywhere else!)

I am sharing this with you because it is really an incredible modern day Love story.

Arthur T, Demoulas

The Beloved Arthur T. Demoulas

I don’t know Arthur T. Demoulas. But I feel like I do.

He has treated his employees with respect and human decency (Love even, I’d say).

The Board decided to remove Arthur T from his position as CEO of the company at the end of June.

In fact, I signed an employee petition months ago, supporting Arthur T’s continued leadership.

Now, days after his removal, Market Basket is a ghost town.

It’s amazing.

The employees were courageous enough to risk their jobs and speak out for their beloved boss. It’s how we knew what was going on behind the scenes.

That kind of commitment to a cause draws real attention. And we, the customers, have now united with our “Market Basket Family”. It is clear that we stand behind the man who has helped us feed our families.

Employee strike, customer boycott. It is enough to stop greed in its tracks.

The stores are losing millions of dollars a day.

I do not know exactly how the next chapter in this saga will read.

But I do know that these amazing acts of loyalty and comradeship are being covered by the international press.

It’s my dream come true! Love is in the news!

It pays to treat each other well. There is great reward for generosity and kindness.

Love is a stronger motivator than fear.

“We love you, Arthur T ~ Market Basket is not the same without you.”
