Love Starts with You

If we want to be our most loving selves and create a loving world, it is within our own minds that we must first look for love.

Seek and you will find.

For many of us lover-types, it is strangely easy to tend towards caring for others before (or more generously than) we address our own wants and needs. We may have been taught the value of loving others, yet overlook the importance of nurturing ourselves with the same degree of compassion and thoughtfulness.

If I didn’t know it before, parenting has confirmed for sure that there is really only one way we learn: by example. In order to teach love, we must practice love. And, really, you can only love another as much as you love yourself. Otherwise, you’re thoughts, words and deeds become incongruent. You’re actions do not align with your values.

You wouldn’t tell someone you love them and then ignore them or put them down, would you? Not on purpose. And yet, if you fall into the trap of self-sabotage, it is possible it will rub off on those around you.

Be kind and patient with yourself so that you can offer your loved ones the same thoughtful affection.

Truly, you want the best for those you love. You take time to listen to them, encourage them, give them honest feedback and support them in making healthy, positive decisions.

Better than providing lip service to love, show others love by treating yourself the way everyone who is loved is treated. Honor and respect your thoughts and feelings, care for your mind and your body.

Remember to demonstrate love today by embracing your Sacred Self!
